Dog Training Ireland

Hi all,
While everyone is preparing for "back to school", we have been busy here at DTI scheduling new courses for you to attend with your dog.

Training Classes
Due to popular demand we have scheduled a "Heelwork" course to start next Thursday the 26/08/2010 at 8pm. If your dogs pulls on the lead and you would like to train them not to then this is the course for you. This course covers:
  • Self Control in your dog on the Lead, teaching your dog to keep his lead loose no matter what happens
  • Understanding how distraction in different environments affects your dog
  • Keeping your dog calm from the moment you pick up the lead in the home to walking out the front door
Please note - If your dog is reactive on the lead (i.e. barking and lunging at other dogs) then please contact us so we can assess your dog in advance as this course is not suitable for aggression.

To book, please go to http://www.dogtrainingireland.ie/training_classes.php.

Also due to popular demand another Foundation Agility course is now available to book. These courses have been booking out within 24 hours of being available on the website, so book soon to avoid disappointment. This course is fast becoming recognised by top Irish Agility competitors (Crufts competitors) as the place to start if you want to embark on an Agility career. It is also recommended even if you and your dog have some experience in order to work on handling, control and reliability of cues. To book your place please visit http://www.dogtrainingireland.ie/_agility_training.php.

We also have a variety of Beginners Obedience level 1 available, the first of which is starting next Thursday the 26th August 2010.

Check out the schedule here.

Not sure about which course to choose? Then go to our "Which Course for You?" page here: http://www.dogtrainingireland.ie/which_course_for_you.php.

Obedience Club
We have been running an Obedience club at DTI since before the summer with great success. The Obedience club is a pay as you go club for existing clients who have completed Obedience level 1 and who wish to keep up their dog’s training. The cost each week is €10. For people who have completed their Level 1 they are invited to attend the Club which runs every Wednesday at 7pm. This club has proved a great success and is great fun.

Train the Dog Trainer
This Fetac level 6 course has become very popular and we are now taking bookings for the third round to start September the 21st. The previous 2 courses that ran earlier this year booked out with 24 places in each. This course is an excellent place to start for anyone who has an interest in dog training, whether you are a dog walker, vet nurse, pet sitter or would like to teach classes in the future.

To book your place go to http://www.dogtrainingireland.ie/_people_training.php (make sure to scroll down!)

Certified Canine First Aid
The next scheduled course is now booked out, but if you are interested in attending a Canine First Aid course, please register your interest including times that would suit you to attend.

Allianz Pet Plan now covers Dog Training Ireland's Behaviour Modification Programs
It is with great pleasure we would like to announce that Allianz have agreed to cover our behavioural consultations for clients whose pets are insured with Allianz Pet Plan. We are happy to take referrals from all veterinary practices on any cases they deem to warrant behavioural advice. Lisa Whelan is now a member of the Association of Pet Behaviour Councillors (APBC), which means she is permitted to give Clinical Behavioural Advice and has reached the necessary level in academia to do so. We adhere to the following structure for our behavioural cases.
  1. Full medical check by Veterinarian including behavioural blood panel where required.
  2. After initial discussion, client takes away and completes our in depth assessment form and returns it.
  3. Scheduled Assessment of the dog without the client present – the dog stays at our training centre for a half day for assessment.
  4. The following are the possible recommendations after the assessment:
    • Full Behavioural Consultation with the family in our dedicated consultation room at the training centre. This consists of a 2 hour consultation. A follow up session is scheduled for one month later.
    • Daycare with specific behaviour modification.
    • Dedicated sessions with client for Behaviour Modification, using Desensitisation, Counter Conditioning and Differential Reinforcement of Other.
    • Training Classes and/or Daycare.
All of the above depends on the problem displayed and its severity. Current prices are as follows:
  • Assessment Half Day (compulsory) - €50
  • Behavioural Consultation incl 1 month follow up - €100
  • Daycare with specific Behaviour Mod per day - €40
  • Dedicated Sessions for Behaviour Mod per session - €40
  • Daycare - €15
If you feel your dog needs behaviour modification please contact us either by phone or email and we will email you our Assessment form and veterinary referral form.
