Puppy Hour

The Puppy Hour™  is a 1 to 1 consultation in our premises, designed specifically for unvaccinated puppies that cannot yet attend classes. The Puppy Hour™  was designed specifically for this reason. Because a young puppy cannot meet other dogs until a complete vaccination course has been administered you can take this time to start effective training in advance of this. This means that by the time your puppy can go visit and socialise with other dogs, family members etc your puppy will listen to you and look to you for direction.

Puppies attending a puppy hour will normally be between 8 – 12 weeks old. The whole family is welcome to attend the Puppy Hour™.

The Puppy Hour™  takes place in our consultation room upstairs and at no time will your puppy come into contact with any dogs. The consultation room is sterilised using hospital grade cleaner before and after a puppy visits to ensure their complete safety.

Many new dog owners make the mistake of starting training with their dog too late. It is vital that from the start your Puppy gets an idea of what is expected from him / her. From the moment your puppy arrives in your home, it becomes your responsibility to ensure that you teach him / her how to behave appropriately. Gentle, motivational and reward based training is the key when working with young puppies. Teaching effective bite inhibition must be done before the age of 16 weeks for it to be truly effective. This is the most important thing you will ever teach your puppy in his/her lifetime.

Puppy Hour™  training is appropriate and relevant to the young age of a puppy. We train by tapping into natural canine puppy behaviours such as their desire to play and their natural instinct to toilet away from their sleeping, eating and living areas.

When you start puppy training early you lay a foundation for continued learning through the dog’s life. Once the desire to learn has been created and nurtured you can build on that.

The following exercises are introduced in a Puppy Hour™ :

    Sit
    Stay
    Leave it/Take it
    Introduction to Recall
    Introduction to Lead Training

We also cover:

Teaching effective Bite Inhibition and it’s importance
The importance of the Socialisation Period
Dealing with mouthing and jumping up
    Toilet Training
    Appropriate Toys
Any other questions you may have

You will also receive our Puppy Hour document which details everything covered during the Puppy Hour™ .

The cost for a Puppy Hour™ is €100 (including vat).
