This course covers the following units:
Assessment is in the form of Practical, Project and Examination. The course is ideal for:
The FETAC award is an excellent starting point for study in the area of Canine Training and Obedience. On completion you will have a solid understanding of what is involved with working with dogs along with a recognised qualification. Evening Course The evening course will be run 1 evening per week. The course duration is 8 weeks of classroom tuition and a final week for practical and written exam. Weekend Course The weekend course will run over four weekend days over four weeks, with two units covered in each classroom session, with an extra final week for practical and written exam, giving a total of five weekend days. Both formats cover the same amount of tuition hours. Training Class attendence Students are encouraged to attend as spectators on Beginners Pet Dog Obedience level 1 and Puppy Socialisation and Owner Education courses. These courses run constantly at Dog Training Ireland, so there is plenty of choice to suit schedules. Current Schedules can be seen on our Obedience Training page. For students outside of Dublin video footage of training exercises will be provided and reviewed during class tuition time. Project There is also a 1500 word project which will have to be submitted. Practical Demonstration of practical skills is required and part of the assessment criteria. A video submission demonstrating these practical skills is required. Examination Written exam consists of 20 short questions and 5 long answers. We ask that students arrive 30 mins early on the first night for registration. In the event of a change to the schedule, students will be notified as soon as possible. Students are welcome to attend other courses available at Dog Training Ireland as spectators to gain experience prior to completion of this course. All assessments and project work are graded by an internal assessor and an external assessor and there is a strict verification process. Access to the internet and a valid email address is essential to participate on this course. You should be able to comfortably use the internet, email and Microsoft Word or equivalent. Access to a dog is essential to complete this course as you are expected to train a dog a number of basic behaviours for your practical assessment. If you are applying for an education grant towards the course fees please call or email so that we may provide you with the correct documentation and fill your documentation for the organisation providing the grant. To pay via instalment, or if you are in receipt of an education grant, please complete your booking online and exit at the payment section.
